About Fair Trade

Fair trade is an approach to business and to development based on dialogue, transparency, and respect that seeks to create greater equity in the international trading system. Fair trade businesses partner with farmers and craftspeople in developing countries who are socially and economically marginalized in finding markets and customers for their goods.

There are nine principles of fair trade that help make this a reality:

We are featuring product from the following members of the Fair Trade Federation as well as others using Fair Trade practices.

Fair Trade is made possible by conscious customers like you, who value handmade products and indigenous artisanal traditions.

Fair Trade provides a sustainable economy while preserving cultural identity, fighting exploitation, and the abuses of crime, corruption, and marginalization. By purchasing Fair Trade, you are not only buying a unique piece, you are also empowering those who painstakingly craft items to provide an income for their families. This direct interaction with each artisan allows them to continue to create quality products and pass on their traditions for generations to come.
