Mount Williamson from Manzanar, Sierra

Nevada, California, 1944

On a visit to Manzanar in 1944, Adams drove to the field of boulders that extends to the base of Mt. Williamson. From the camera platform on top of his car, he captured a storm passing over the distant mountain range—an awe-inspiring image that confounds all sense of scale and perspective.
